The author considers whether there is any advantage to be gained in eliminating the use of nomenclatural type for spore genera, as already proposed by among others Gunnar Erdtman in 1947. In the author's Synopsis the #x2018;turmae#x2019;, as well as taxa above familial rank in the #x201C;natural system#x201D; of Engler and Prantl have no type. Type abolition is not advocated in the case of form species of spores. The references at the end (Potoni#xE9;, R., 1931#x2013;1973) illustrate the author's changing view-point in taxonomical treatment of the Sporae dispersae over the years elapsed since the proposals of Henry Potoni#xE9; in 1909, before finally adopting the type method of the ICBN.
