摘要

High-energy ball milling process has been applied to MgO and Al_2O_3 system. The reaction of MgO and Al_2O_3 is significantly enhanced by the high-energy ball milling process. MgAl_2O_4 spinel phase with an average grain size of about 100 nm is formed at 900 deg C from the mixture of MgO and Al_2O_3 after milling for 12 h. Dense MgAl_2O_4 ceramics with 98 percent of the theoretical density and grain size of 2-5 mu m can be obtained by sintering the milled mixture at 1550 deg C for 2 h.
