摘要

A contact concept is proposed to explain thetribology of unlubricated metal-to-metal sliding at high speeds.It is aimed at studying the coefficient during oscillatory motionunder dry conditions. An experimental set-up was designedand built where two cylindrical rods of crossed axes are used tosimulate the contacting oscillating bodies. Four frequencies of4,6,8 of 6,8 and 10 Newtons were tested. Temperatures at fourdifferent locations along the surface of contact of one of therods were measured. An analytical nodel based upon heat flowequations and friction energy is developed to determine thegradients of both the contact temperature and frictioncoefficient within the vicinity of contact. The heat flowequations are solved numerically using the Finite DifferenceTechnique. Good correlation between experimental andanalytical results was obtained with a maximum deviation of no more than 15.
