In the wavelet decomposition of an image, there may exist visual displacements in the decomposed image. Such displacements are dependent on the filter sequences used in the decomposition. In this paper, we first compute the supports of finite-length signals decomposed by arbitrary filter sequences. Then, based on the dominant terms of the filter sequences, we give analytic definitions of displacements, and obtain explicit expressions for them. We also propose a method to design filter sequences that do not produce any displacement. Some experimental results from our method for the decomposition of images are shown.
