Demand for woven and knit fabric by US companies increased substantially during the first 11 months of 2002. Total imports were valued at US$5,383m, 7.5 over the same period of 2001. Although 2002 purchases were 4 below 2000 levels, the market strengthened during the course of the year. January 2002 imports were 10 below those of January 2001. By June imports were 10 above imports for June 2001, and imports for November 2002 were 18 higher than a year earlier. Moreover, while the average price per m~2 of imports fell (partial data indicate an average decline of 14 per m~2), volume for most fabrics grew substantially.
