For the fourth year running the Italian textile machine industry has registered a decline in production activity. ACIMIT, the Association of Italian Textile Machine Manufacturers, reports that sales in 2005 for the sector dropped to ?2.5 billion. Domestic sales amounted to ?532 million. Related sectors downstream, despite signs of recovery during the year, are struggling in their efforts to launch a consistent investment program. Machinery imports, which over 2005 appeared to progress compared to 2004, closed the year with a value of ?571 million, stable on the previous year.
