It's high noon on a desert island and I'm about to take my first shot with the new Contax 645. These are not ideal conditions: a stark, arid landscape, blinding white sand and startlingly turquoise water. I only skimmed the instruction manual during the long flight from Seattle to Aruba the day before and don't have much hope that I'll get any decent shots the first time out. Fortunately, I was wrong. The Contax handled the harsh sunlight much better than I did and delivered sharp, well-exposed images pretty much out of the box. Earlier I had set the camera to aperture priority and when it came time to shoot, I simply composed, engaged the autofocus and clicked. It was that easy.
