abstract_textpA description is provided of the extra-articular stabilisation technique of the stifle joint in the dog, consecutive to the rupture of the cranial cruciate ligament by means of a fascia lata prosthesis strip and a reinforcement wire. A clinical appraisal is given in function of two criteria: the time required for the patient to retrieve full weight-bearing capacity and the quality of recovery with reference to the results of the histological examination of the synovial membrane removed in the course of surgery. It would appear that the quality of recovery depends upon the length of time required to retrieve full weight-bearing capacity and not upon the type of synovitis observed./p/abstract_text
