Developments in the more traditional continuous casting technologies, and the inability of horizontal continuous casting (HCC) to produce billets at low cost, contributed to the waning of this casting technology in major steelworks. However, HCChas proved to be applicable in some special alloy markets and still fits well into the micro-mill concept.
