Abstract:The treatment of the modern epidemic of coronary artery disease requires the availability of various cardiac assist devices. A review and future implications of the use of retrograde coronary venous perfusion, the intraaortic balloon, a new ascending aortic pump, variable atrial septal defect, and novel energy sources are discussed.
