Henry David Thoreau said: "The youth gets together his materials to build a bridge to the moon, or perchance, a palace or temple on the earth, and, at length, the middle-aged man concludes to build a woodshed with them." In 2002, we've seen too many youthful companies implode (Enron, WorldCom) as they look to build a bridge to the moon. In addition to foggy financing and mysterious accounting, virtual-based companies like Enron tried to pave a path to riches taking shortcuts. History shows that the keys to successful aging are things like development of new ideas and products, making sure you stay efficient in meeting the needs of your customers and establishing a corporate culture that enables a company to follow trends and quickly retool to meet new market needs.
