Ray tracing is used to design two-dimensional lens ducts with maximum transfer efficiency for specified parameters. Diode efficiency and ray efficiency are introduced in order to study transmission of rays through the lens duct. Calculation shows that the transfer efficiency depends on the lens duct parameters and the divergence of the input ray. With high-performance antireflection coating on the exit aperture of the lens duct, diode transfer efficiency as large as 99percent is obtained for the slow axis of the laser diode.
