A study was conducted at Stillwater, Oklahoma, USA, to evaluate the performance of a traditional Ethiopian tillage blade in comparison with a sweep-plough blade. The plough blades were tested at 3 depths and speeds of operation in a sandy loam soil. The study revealed that the draught of these 2 blades was significantly affected by speed and depth. The average draught requirements of the sweep and traditional plough blades were found to be 1.27 and 1.1 kN, respectively. The sweep-blade had a lowerspecific draught requirement than the traditional plough blade.
