AbstractBlends of hypalon and carboxylated nitrile rubber can be vulcanized during molding at high temperatures without addition of any curing agent. This is supported by studies on a Monsanto rheometer, solvent swelling, and FTIR spectroscopy. We designate such a blend system as “self‐vulcanizable rubber blend.” Dynamic mechanical analyses and differential scanning calorimeter studies show that hypalon and carboxylated nitrile rubber form a completely miscible blend. Physical properties of the blends are comparable to that of control single‐rubber vulcanizates. The blend can be reinforced by carbon black
