Had I managed to score a BMW i8 for six months, as our Andrew Frankel has, I doubt I'd be sharing it with every Tom, Dick and Harry. Yet this is (almost) what the generous Mr F is doing: allowing Autocar staff to use it while he tops up his road test experience bank with mainstream models. I grabbed it for a trip to Coventry and found it quick, precise and easy to handle. It's elever, too: the 354bhp performance emanates from three different sources (two electric motors and a petrol triple) yet torque delivery is so seamless that you really won't feel the join.
