People with psychopathic disorder are likely to misapprehend others as hostile, to have few if any neuropsychological deficits, and may learn faster than others when rewarded. An adoption study showed they are likely to have a criminal biological parent and lower-class adoptive parents. They are likely to have been physically abused as children, to be reported as aggressive as children themselves, and to abuse alcohol and drugs as adults. Psychopathic disorder may consist of at least two syndromes, including one of psychological impairments such as egocentricity and callousness, and the other of social handicaps such as criminality and poor parenting. These syndromes are likely to have different causes and consequences.
