Compared with wool textile production, carpet manufacture is relatively small in scale at present in China. However with the improvement of Chinese people's living standards and the prosperity of China's interior decoration market, the carpet industry should enjoy a new boom in development. Like the wool textile industry, carpet products are classified by various standards, but usually can be classified by the differences in manufacturing technology and raw materials. According to the different kinds of raw materials used, carpet products can be classified into wool, silk, nylon, polypropylene, polyester and various types of blended carpets. They can also be classified into handmade, hand-tufted, woven, tufted, bonded, needle-punched, tile carpets etc, according to the manufacturing technology adopted. According to end usage and location, they are also grouped under residential carpets and contract carpets.
