We've known for over ayearthatthe EU is planningbigfines for manufacturers who exceed the target of an average 130g/km of CO{sub}2 across their car ranges. But this week we publish the first independent calculation of how much money is at stake -and the numbers are scary. The figures from cleangreencars.co.uk show the size of the potential fines. Using just UK sales figures for 2008, VauxhalI is going to be hardest hit, with a potential fine of over ￡620m. Even lower volume seller Chrysler is in line for a ￡28m penalty.
