WE LIKED THE old Nissan Qashqai+2. It was well priced, seated seven and returned an impressive 55.4mpg combined in 1.6 dCi form. So a tear might have been shed over the fact that the +2 has been axed with the arrival of the Mk2 Qashqai, were it not for the fact that it has swiftly been replaced by a new X-Trail. The latest X-Trail's sleeker styling is a direct effort to attract prospective Qashqai+2 customers, and despite its larger body, it sits on the Qashqai's platform, offers the same 1.6-litre turbodiesel as its smaller brother and takes its interior packaging wholesale. Look at the two side by side and the family resemblance is clear, and it's a credit to Nissan that the X-Trail doesn't look like a conventional, boxy SUV.
