Be it art, science or mindless mucking about, driving sideways is an awful lot of fun. But which car is best for a spot of drifting? Matt Prior decides. Trying to justify it is tempting. It's tempting, too, to pretend to be worthy and conscientious and suggest that the assessment of transient dynamic behaviour over the next few pages is, in fact, crucial to overall objective handling tests. It is, I suppose, but that's not why it started. The Sideways Challenge existed in the first instance - and has been resurrected now - simply because everybody involved in the doing and the reading of it thought it was a right old giggle. So here we are, on one of Oulton Park's two rally stages - a low-grip drift circuit, to you and me -with nine of the UK's most sideways cars. And, in a few pages' time, once we've decided which is our most driftable car, we have nine people who each think they might be Britain's most sideways driver.
