During the warmer months of the year, our fleet regularly accumulates their fair share of bugs over the course of a day. In contrast to jetliners, which fly higher and usually over longer sectors, our ATRs spend most of their time at lower altitudes and thus are more prone to bug-strikes. On one particularly hot summer day, outbound from Diisseldorf, Germany, we experienced an unusual encounter with a swarm of flying creatures. Suddenly, it sounded like light hail hitting the windshield. The onslaught lasted for only about ten seconds, but the result was impressive. Fortunately for us, cleaning the mess was not on our list of duties.
