In selecting the right conveyor setup for your metalforming application, start by making this decision: build the conveyor system in-house, or purchase it from a vendor. Time is the first factor to consider in the homemade vs. new debate. Designing a conveyor system from scratch, then gathering the resources and parts needed takes excess time and energy-time and energy perhaps better spent on other tasks. In contrast, some conveyor suppliers have reduced delivery times down to a matter of days from when receiving an order. Time is money, and for projects that must be fully operational as quickly as possible, outsourcing a conveyor order can be a significant time-saving decision. Quality is the second factor to consider in the build vs. buy debate. Why let a multi-million dollar operation fall victim to a cheaply built in-house conveyor system? Are the conveyors you're building in-house durable enough to stand up to the application, and will they operate reliably over two or three shifts a day, six or seven days a week during the busy season? How easily will you be able to obtain replacement parts, and what happens when the employees who built the conveyors leave the company?
