This paper aims to explore the important changes that occurred within forestry and woodland management in Scotland during the First World War, and how these changes were achieved. It will consider the general situation of forest management and the state's role before 1914, the demands that the war effort made upon Scotland's woodlands and the people who worked with them, as well as some of the consequences for how forestry was managed in the years immediately following the war.
