Krautkramer's USM Series of portable detectors from Agfa NDT Inc., Lewistown, Pa., are the lightest (3.5 pounds), fully capable instruments on the market. Improvements to the USM Series include reduced minimum range to .020 inch (.5 mm) in steel for optimum thin range use and evaluation of echo dynamics and curvature correction, which compensates trigonometric flaw location calculations when performing angle beam inspection on piping and tubular goods.
