摘要

The Goosefoot Sea-star (Anseropoda placenta) occurs within the north-east Atlantic to depths of 600 m, and is widely distributed about the Irish coast. Its presence in shallow water in Kenmare Bay at depths of 4 to 25 m is unusual. We report on collections from within this bay while diving, of three specimens in 1977 and twenty-nine in 1982. Many more were seen while diving and the occurrence of different sizes over this period most probably represents an established population. Several specimens were damaged with a reduced number of arms and lacerations that might be due to decapod predation or damage from scallop dredges.
