Based on the experimental results and the subsequent discussions, the following inference can be drawn. Spun silk fabrics and spun silk and viscose union fabrics can be dyed successfully with or without mordant to produce various shades in different tones and hues at different concentration levels using onion skin as a natural dye. Both the fabrics dyed in identical conditions. The dyeing performance as well as produced colours, samples dyed without mordant and with mordant, are also similar. Samples dyed with onion skin liquor with the following processes, without mordanted, also without mordanted but with the addition of a little acetic acid and simultaneously mordanted with metallic salts , produced very attractive and soothing colours. Samples dyed without mordant also produced very attractive middle buff, reddish brown, reddish orange, deep golden brown, metallic copper, etc. colours. The overall colour fastness properties of the samples exhibit satisfactory results at all level of dyeing. From the results it is also evident that the acetic acid has significant contribution for producing deeper and brighter shades as compared to samples dyed without aceticacid.
