Not until water management, in the form of irrigation, began to be practiced in the area, did the Okanagan Valley begin to prosper. However this led to problems of urban expansion, land use conflict and resource depletion. The work of citizen groups in reviewing the Okanagan Basin Implementation Program indicates that the key to successful land management in the area is intelligent and proper management of its water resources.
