De-Sta-Co Mfg., Troy, MI, announced its capabilities in Clover/Dome, a type of stamped dome-shaped disc spring with deflections reportedly several times that of conventional conical or disc spring washers, commonly referred to as Belleville washers.Developed by Schwab-Koplin Associates, Port St. Lucie, FL, and licensed to De-Sta-Co, the process is said to provide new options in disc-shaped-spring applications. Such stampings can replace coil springs where space is at a premium, and can replace conventional conical washers where a lower spring rate with significantly more deflection is required. Clover-shape V; geometry allows a material to be formed in a dome with a cone angle of 15 deg. as opposed to 5 or 6 deg. as is common with conical washers, according to company officials. It is said to provide precisely controlled compression in nut and bolt assemblies and eliminate the need for a torque control required for gasket installations.
