AbstractInoculation of stem pieces and living plants was used to assess the susceptibility of a range of exotic Fagaceous and Tasmanian native tree and shrub species to the vascular stain organismChalara australis. Development of inoculum on freshly cut stump surfaces of a number of species was also examined. The fungus has a limited host range but may produce inoculum on moribund surface tissues of non host species and is a potential hazard to otherNothofagusspecies growing both within Australia and elsewhere in the world.
