Production in the aluminium processing industry showed no signs of slowing down in 2000. In that year consumption growth rates for both rolled and extruded products were higher than in 1999. Although production growth is expected to decline slightly in 2001, growth will still be satisfactory. A slower increase in the automobile industry will be compensated by positive growth rates in the building sector, while the weak Euro will boost the competitiveness of mechanical engineering. In the third quarter of 2000 demand for rolled products remained strong; compared with the year before, a growth of 4.5 percent was recorded.
