An innovative punching system and high-performance tooling brings productivity improvement to Wesgar Industries. In the past year, Wesgar Industries, Ltd., Port Coquitlam, British Columbia, Canada, has doubled punching output while reducing labor content; reduced tool-sharpening time from 40 to less than one-half hour per week; and slashed tool setup time by more than 50 percent on most jobs. Key to these improvements: a new Finn-Power F6 Express turret punch press combined with Ultra Tec tooling from Mate Precision Tooling. Wesgar, a precision sheetmetal fabricator, specializes in enclosures, chassis and frames for electrical and electronic applications. The company employs 100 workers in a 55,000-sq.-ft. facility, performing an array of cutting, punching, forming, bending and assembly operations. Materials fabricated include mild and stainless steel and aluminum alloys in varying thicknesses, in part runs from five to 1000 with an average run of 100.
