Following two years of stagnant robot sales, a recovery in the Japanese market helped grow the worldwide market by 25 per cent during 2000, according to a new report from the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE).Sales of all types of industrial robot rose by 32 per cent in Japan last year to stand at 47,000 units. Performance in the Republic of Korea was even more spectacular, which posted a 95 per cent increase during 2000, on the back of a 70 per cent gain in 1999. This recovery follows plummeting sales of robots in Korea during 1997-98 at the height of the Asian stock market crisis.
