For the development of high speed elevators for high rise buildings, the preliminary evaluation of the effect of the ear pressure discomfort is very important to improve the ride comfort of passengers. We have developed a method to measure the displacement and the motion of the tympanic membrane of the passengers of high speed elevators and evaluated the relationship of the behavior of the tympanic membrane, the ambient atmospheric pressure and the ear pressure discomfort. The shape-from-shading method has been applied to reproduce the displacement and motion of the tympanic membrane from the image measured by a microscope and a high speed camera. The relationship between the displacement and the ear pressure discomfort has been evaluated.
