A serious new dispute has arisen in the Doha Round of rade talks, with the European Union and the US divided over whether textiles and clothing deserve special protection, the Financial Times reports. Turkey, whose clothing companies are suffering from Chinese competition, has called for a laquo;sectoralraquo; treatment that would have textile and garment tariffs negotiated separately, allowing Turkey and other governments to press for smaller cuts in protection.
