In a typical commercial Nylon 6 fibre manufacturing plant, the occurrence of fibre waste is of the order of 5-6 of the total production (1). It is essential to recover the monomer caprolactum from this waste by depolymerisation. The various reactions that can take place in depolymerisation of polycarolactum have been discussed by Korshak (2). Heikens et al (3) have exlained the thermal deolymerisation of Nylon 6 by the process of acidolysis and aminolysis.
