The patient with cervical spine injury (CSI) can present a number of difficult problems for the anesthesiologist. Airway management is complicated by the possibility of producing secondary neurological damage. The optimum method of tracheal intubation is controversial. This review will outline the basic principles of CSI and airway management with reference to recent articles.
