AOS Inc. is a privately held, family owned company that specializes in medical device OEM manufacturing and innovative medical device design. It is the tenth largest medical device company by revenue in the state of Minnesota. The company started in the late 1970's and concentrated on the design and manufacture of pacemaker lead coils and guidewires. Over the years AOS Inc. has expanded its product portfolio in to machined parts, stylets, embolic protection filters, coatings, stents, testing equipment, and automated manufacturing equipment. It has also developed a strong Product Development department that focuses on current and new product innovation. These innovations come in the form of patentable designs and processes, patentable concepts, prototypes and models, design and process trade secrets, trademark names, and knowledge. These innovations are constantly encouraged and significant research and development time is put in to these potential areas of success. Due to the increase distribution of company resources in to product development/RD it is clear that these innovations and ideas must be utilized and turned in to profit. In order to successfully complete this task the Intellectual Property, which consists of patents, trademarks, trade secrets, and knowledge, must be managed appropriately. IP Management refers to the maintenance, leveraging, mapping, recording, and disclosing of IP.
