All photographers experi-merit with techniques to help define their style. In film's hay day, certain emulsions could provide the "look" in one's style, whether it was Kodak Tri-X or Kodachrome, or other films. But with today's digital film there is no grain, only ones and zeros that map the pixels of an image, forcing photographers to master new techniques to help define or maintain their style. One of these digital photography techniques is the use of white balance. But before we discuss the advantages of white balance as a technique, one must understand basic color theory and the original purpose of white balance.
