Batik air (IATA: ID) is another subsidiary of the Lion Group of Indonesia (News from the Airways, June 2013), which launched full-service operations on May 3 using two new Boeing 737-900ERs (PK-LBH; In 4441, msn 38689 pictured). Another four will be diverted from Lion Air orders in 2013, as well as the five 787-8s on order for 2015. Batik Air, which offers a two-class C12Y160 cabin, links Jakarta with Balikpapan, East Kalimantan, and Manado, northern Sulawesi. Service to Ambon, Maluku Islands, and Pekan Baru, Riau (Sumatra) are scheduled. Meanwhile, Lion Air wrote-off a two-month-old 737-800 at Denpasar, Bali, on April 13, when it undershot into the sea, fortunately without loss of life.
