Scan Press A/S, Horsens, Denmark, needed a new production line with a high degree of automation and a number of new technical features. It turned to APT for its new press line. Operating since April 2002, the line manufactures end pieces for gas containers. It consists of a visual recognition system, a six-axis robot supplied by ABB, a two-axis CD-25 press robot: a LPS-2500 deep-draw press, lubrication unit, double-blank detection, bins for stacking of completed parts, and a conveyor system for pallets and bins. The line produces at the rate of 10 parts/min. Scan Press uses flat circular blanks, in diameters from 3.5 to 12.6 in. in forming 19 different parts in the press line.
