Lean-manufacturing practices and the need to reduce idle production itime continue to alter the approach to stamping jobs. Often, stampers choose more flexible machines to raise production levels. But there's another sometimes-overlooked approach to increasing efficiencies: taking the necessary steps to turn shop-floor personnel into troubleshooters. Baseline training in the fundamentals is an important first step in the transformation. The more information operators have, the more effectively they can troubleshoot issues. Formal training should cover stamping presses and a fundamental understanding of key tooling concepts and auxiliary equipment.
