Energy resource is the motive power for economic development and the innovation of energy technology is a driving force of industrial revolution. Historically, the invention of steam engines, internal-combustion engines, and electric generators, as well as the discovery and the development of petroleum, successively was a significant milestone in energy technology. It also promoted an industrial revolution resulting in a leap in the world economic growth. On the other hand, the shortage of energy resources is also a key restrictive factor for the economic development and the energy crisis ever leads to worldwide economic recession. At present, the energy crisis has emerged again and become a main restrictive factor for the economic and societal development of the world but at the same time, there is an indication of a new energy revolution which will give impetus to the next industrial revolution.
