This study was conducted to evaluate the comparative performance of 2 different sunflower threshing techniques. A stationary thresher and combine harvester were tested at various cylinder speeds and feed rates to thresh sunflowers varying in initialmoisture contents. Their performances were evaluated and compared with that of the conventional manual method. Threshing costs of 0.364 Rs/kg and 0.260 Rs/kg were observed for combine harvesters and threshers having threshing capacities of 1000 kg/h and447 kg/h, respectively. The cost of sunflower threshing by stick beating (manual method) was 0.620 Rs/kg. The cleaning and threshing efficiencies of combine and thresher were 96.7 and 98.7 and 89.36 and 97.3, respectively. Hence, the stationary thresher is preferred to the combine harvester to save labour time and thus minimize threshing costs.
