I approach handwoven clothing by designing creative layers to be worn loosely over what I call my uniforms―a few basic garments that fit my body: matching top and slacks or skirt, dresses, jeans with turtlenecks. This approach allows me great freedom in the style of garment that I choose to make and the use of simple shapes. For dressy occasions I weave vests or kimono-style jackets that go with my choice of "uniform." For this garment, I wanted a vest that could be worn four ways, frontward, backward―and inside out frontward and backward.
