Oxygen K-edge electron-energy-loss spectra are recorded in a Ca aluminosilicate glass. The origin of the broad structure of the O K-edge is discussed in terms of the oxygen configurations in oxide glasses. Full multiple scattering calculations in a proposed structure model distinguish the components from the different types of oxygen. The threshold of the O K-edge is dominant by the non-bridging oxygen. (C) 2002 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved. References: 18
