Abstract2‐Butyl‐2‐(4 chlorophenyl)‐3‐(1H‐1,2,4‐triazol‐1‐yl)propanenitrile, RH 3866, a new broad‐spectrum fungicide was particularly effective against fungi in the subclass loculoascomycetidae and against powdery mildews and rusts. Some activity against fungi in the generaFusarium, MoniliniaandRhizoctoniawas also observed. The compound was translocated upwards when applied as a soil drench to control wheat‐leaf rust caused byPuccinia reconditaf.sp.tritici. Fenarimol‐resistantAspergillus nidulanswas cross‐resistant to RH 3866. Using a cell‐free yeast enzyme extract RH 3866 strongly inhibited
