The best part of authoring this monthly column is interacting with the magazine's loyal readers. One article that resulted in an overwhelming response ran in May 2005, the first installment of a trilogy that dealt with a forming problem. As you may recall, the first article described the problem, the second provided more information and the third provided the solution. After the first article was published, I received feedback from several readers, each offering their view of the solution. Some shops were taking bets on what the root cause was. The solutions ranged from changing the insert material to improper lubricants, to not enough punch-to-die clearance, to not enough blankholder force.
