摘要

Plenty of jobs need doing, despite their inherent danger. Think of loggers, aircraft pilots, ocean-going fishermen and structural-iron and -steel workers. Their services are invaluable in meeting society's needs. But they also comprise the top four spots in the latest Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS) census of fatal occupational injuries. Historically, metalforming has been considered one of those dangerous occupations, with humans working in close proximity to machinery that cuts, presses and turns using thousands of pounds of force. But through the years, the development and advancement of safety-related products for the pressroom, as well as employee safety training, automation and industry commitment has made the pressroom a safer place to work, and it is still getting safer. For instance, the BLS reports that in manufacturing as a whole, incidence rates (the number of injuries and illnesses per 100 full-time workers) have dropped from 6.8 in 2003 to 6.6 to 2004.
