If you attended the PhotoImaging Design Expo in San Diego this past May, you might have caught Douglas Dubler's 90-minute workshop, "Beauty from Concept to Output." This innovative live digital fashion shoot, which produced the images showcased in this cover story, was one of the new breed of live shoot performances experienced by PIDE attendees. What made this session so innovative is that Dubler and his team were able to capture high-definition digital images of a model, edit, process, and retouch the keepers, and output them as high-res 16x20-inch prints on an Epson Stylus 4000 in an hour-and-a-half. And we're not talking quick-and-dirty picture-taking. The top-flight team who made it all possible included Walter Lindsay, his first assistant and producer; Von Thomas, digital technician; Willie, his retouching wizard; and Sylvia Pichler, his long-time hair and makeup coordinator.
