With a pressing power of 28,000 kN and a table size of 8 by 16 ft., a high-speed tryout press supplied to Daimler-Chrysler AG in Sindelfingen, Germany, is one of the world's largest. The press, from Dieffenbacher, Eppingen, Germany, features forming speeds to 20 in./sec., and is characterized by a large-sized drive with piston accumulator, in connection with six charge pumps of 132-kw capacity each. It not only enables cost-effective tryout of tools but low-volume production as well. An active ram-parallel-motion control with four individually controlled short-stroke cylinders permits accurate simulation of different drive kinematics of mechanical and hydraulical production presses and the compensation of individual tilting behavior under eccentric forces.
